Three chances to win in each category!

Contest Description

Since inception of BC’s Return-It Electronics program, approximately 30,000 tonnes of material has been recycled responsibly and kept out of BC’s landfills through the efforts of ESABC and their partners.

What would 30,000 tonnes of recycled electronics look like to a student in British Columbia? Through creative medium, elementary and high school students will be asked to show what can be done with the recycled, end-product of the applicable program materials.

Two categories will be offered to ensure an equal level of judging: elementary and high school.  Submission mediums will vary as each category will have different mediums available, i.e.: high schools will more likely have access to, and skill level to use, digital media where elementary schools may not.

Students will benefit from this contest as they will gain valuable insight to a relatively new recyclable product stream. Most students are aware of what happens to recyclables that have been mandatory for several years, such as cans, bottles, and paper products. They will learn a great deal through research about ESABC’s program, the materials collected and the end-product, recycled material.

Participation Requirements
  • Eligibility – Must be a school recognized by the BC Ministry of Education.
  • Research – Students will need to research how electronics are recycled in British Columbia and what is done with the recycled material. They should also research ESABC’s role and who they are.
  • Accurate Information – All information portrayed in the submission must be accurate in order for it to be considered.
  • Creativity – Submissions must be created by students. Teachers, parents or guardians may assist if safety is a concern. There are no limits or guidelines as to how creative students can be and which mediums they can utilize.
  • Submission Received In Tact – All submissions must arrive at Encorp’s head office in tact in order to be considered for judging. Submissions must be stable and safe as there is the possibility that it may be shipped to an additional location after being received at Encorp.
